Alice Paul (1885-1977) was a dynamic suffragist leader who used radical techniques and strategies to help win American women the right to vote in 1920. Join first person presenter and historian Leslie Goddard as she gives a dramatic portrayal of this amazing feminist, activist, and important figure in U.S. history in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment.

In 2010, after an extensive restoration, the Elmhurst History Museum reopened the historic Churchville Schoolhouse—one of the last remaining one-room schoolhouses in Illinois that dates to circa 1850 and is listed on the National Register of History Places. Over the past decade, the Schoolhouse has provided a memorable living history experience for hundreds of children and breathed new life into this significant DuPage County landmark. To commemorate the 10-year anniversary and the community-based effort that helped to preserve this local treasure, join us for an online pre-recorded video presentation sharing the story of the Churchville Schoolhouse.

On a dark and stormy night, we’ll be conjuring up Halloween spirit at the historic Churchville Schoolhouse through readings of Edgar Allen Poe’s scariest works. Gather your fearless friends and tune in online as EHM staff members tap into creepy classics like “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Raven,” and more. Program duration: Appr. 30 minutes. 

#TBT LECTURE: Stars, Stripes & Strategy: A Brief History of the Presidential Campaign Poster

On the brink of America’s 2020 presidential election, Elmhurst History Museum’s Executive Director Dave Oberg puts campaigns into perspective with a sweeping analysis of more than two centuries of famous and infamous presidential campaign posters and the underlying strategies that drove them. View images of iconic posters and hear about local stories of presidents and presidential candidates who visited Elmhurst over the years.

ADULT LECTURE: Frank Lloyd Wright and the Architecture of Space

From Unity Temple to the Guggenheim Museum, the dynamic interior spaces of Wright’s buildings were integrally tied to the overall forms of these structures. For Wright form did not follow function, “form and function were one.” John H. Waters, Preservation Programs Manager at the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy, will share images and insights into the spaces that Wright created and discuss the importance of preserving his buildings for future generations. Program will be available through December 20, 2020.

VIRTUAL FAMILY WORKSHOP: Art Glass Made Wright

Learn about architect Frank Lloyd Wright and make a "stained glass window" craft in this virtual program presented by the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust. Register on the Elmhurst Public Library’s website starting Oct. 17 to receive the Zoom link. Registrants may pick up the supply kit for the class at the library beginning Oct. 17. Suitable for grades 3-8. EPL card not required.

Elmhurst Walking & Biking Tours


Embark on a local biking or walking tour that takes a 5K loop through Elmhurst pointing out interesting historical places and sights along the way. DOWNLOAD MAP HERE

Bronze Plaque Adventure Scavenger Hunt


Take a trip through time and learn a little local history while searching for Elmhurst treasures captured in bronze (and stone).
