Ruth Strand Poster Contest

2020 Ruth Strand Poster Contest: Lessons from Home

Each year the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation and Elmhurst History Museum sponsor the Ruth Strand Poster Contest in recognition of Ruth Strand, a long-time director of the Elmhurst Public Library and founding member of the Elmhurst History Museum, for her extensive contributions to the Elmhurst community. In light of this year’s extenuating circumstances and school closures, the Foundation and Museum changed the theme to "Lessons from Home" and will widen the reach to ALL Illinois schoolchildren of any age who would like to participate. Note: This will not be a judged contest as in previous years.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE: To participate, each child should download, print and complete the participation form to draw a picture of their current homeschooling experience OR describe ways their family has dealt with our current shelter-in-place order during this historic time. Participants should also write a sentence or two describing what is happening in their drawing.

SUBMIT ENTRY: A PDF or photo of both pages is all that is needed. Submit entries via email to jess.wandersee@elmhurst.org. Poster entries must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2020.

PRIZES: The first 100 entries will receive a $5 Elmhurst City Centre gift card, to be picked up at the Elmhurst History Museum when normal operating hours resume and social distancing comes to an end. Winners will be notified via email. Entries will be posted in an online gallery on our web site and social media.

If you have any questions, please email Supervisor of Education Services, Jessie Wandersee, at jess.wandersee@elmhurst.org

Thank you for participating, and we look forward to hearing about your stay-at-home experiences!
